  8.    Glasgow University has the largest Physics Department in Scotland and 
  9. one of the  largest  in UK.  We  offer  a wide selection  of  courses  and 
  10. options in  all  branches  of  physics and astronomy, ranging from theories 
  11. of the origin of the Universe to practical applications of electronics 
  12. and lasers. Physics can be combined with many other subjects - not just 
  13. Mathematics or Electronic Engineering but even Music or Philosophy.
  14.  
  15.    Computational techniques are an important part of modern physics and the 
  16. department has course options in this area. The main language used is 'C' 
  17. written on PC's and Acorn computers.  Many students choose to do computing 
  18. projects in their third year.
  19.  
  20.    These programs were originally written to demonstrate some of the concepts 
  21. in the undergraduate lecture courses given in our department. They were coded 
  22. in BASIC by  Dr Sandy Watt as part of an ongoing computer assisted learning 
  23. programme. They proved  to  be useful both as  lecturing  aids and also for 
  24. students to experiment with themselves and have generally been well received.

  26.    They are being distributed in the hope that they will be equally useful to 
  27. other educational establishments. The applications are freeware. They may be 
  28. spread freely with all files (including  this plug for  Glasgow  University) 
  29. intact. They may not be used or distributed for profit.
